The mission of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is to provide statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by all Ohioans.
The Bureau of Correctional Recovery Services works to instill in offenders an improved sense of responsibility and the ability to become law-abiding citizens through the provision of all core function services in the treatment for offenders in institution and community settings who are in need of substance abuse recovery programming. The bureau provides and works to expand and enhance substance abuse treatment approaches that build on state-of-the-art scientific and practical knowledge to improve treatment outcomes for offenders and to provide a seamless holistic approach to alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment.
ONE OPENING - FIRST SHIFT
OhioMHAS is recruiting for professionals to fill the role of Correctional Program Coordinator in the Franklin Medical Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides alcohol & drug counseling & other ancillary services to inmates on assigned caseload; completes intake assessments, treatment plans, progress notes & discharge planning on inmates; coordinates with other treatment services (e.g., medical, mental health, education, recreation, volunteer & community services providers) for the purpose of individualized treatment planning, utilizing a coordinated treatment approach; monitors attendance & participation progress of inmates in substance abuse programs; reviews case files & termination of program participation; provides continuing care planning; intervenes in crisis situations; reviews inmate files for program admission consideration & treatment planning; contacts Adult Parole Authority (APA) &/or chemical dependency specialists regarding inmate activities; develops & coordinates substance abuse programming for inmates (e.g., substance abusing/mentally ill) as assigned.
Monitors activities of volunteers; facilitates support/fellowship meetings & provides technical assistance & training to volunteers involved in the recovery services program; part icipates in program quality assurance activities to include peer utilization & clinical record reviews.
Attends seminars & conferences; must conduct self professionally and in a law-abiding manner at all times & in accordance with the OhioMHAS & ODRC Standards of Employee Conduct; performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must hold current certification or credentials in one of following:
Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases after completing probation and following successful annual performance evaluations.
Major Worker Characteristics
Knowledge of public relations, assigned responsibility for establishing & sustaining beneficial business relationships or establishing & projecting acceptable public image; *agency policies & procedures; counseling; interviewing; social sciences (social welfare).
Skill in word processing (Microsoft office); equipment operation (copier, fax).
Ability to recognize unu sual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; understand practical field of study; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; deal with many variables and determine specific action; recognize safety warnings; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; gather, collect and classify information about data, people or things; handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; develop good rapport with inmates and/or patients.
